My name is Andréa Christian and I am a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy in Buffalo, NY.
I moved to Buffalo three years ago as part of Teach for America Buffalo. I began my teaching career here in Buffalo Public Schools while earning my Masters in Childhood Education with a Bilingual Extension at Canisius College. I have a passion for education equity and empowering students in their academic progress. I have been able to utilize my background in psychology from Loyola University Maryland to develop independent little beings. As part of a pilot district initiative, I have incorporated dance, movement and mindfulness into my daily instruction. The use of mindfulness with my young students gives them the ability to develop their sense of autonomy and self-control. I love my job and I love to travel! My first time abroad was when I went to France at sixteen years old for a few weeks. Additionally, in my undergraduate career I studied in Alcala, Madrid, Spain for six months and had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. I am so excited for this opportunity with IPDS Colombia. I look forward to observing instruction and the daily routine of the public and private schools in Colombia. I hope to talk with other bilingual teachers about the curriculum and their work with the students. I am excited to see how students engage in the various academic and social programs provided to them. I am most excited to escape the Buffalo cold for the Colombia calor for a short while!
